The Edward Snowden Interview Closed-circuit television In recent years, the use of body worn video cameras has been introduced as a new form of surveillance, often used in law enforcement, with cameras located on a police officer's chest or head. Video surveillance has generated significant debate about balancing its use with individuals' right to privacy even when in public. Special cameras for some of these purposes include line-scan cameras and thermographic cameras which allow operators to measure the temperature of the processes. With the addition of fixed cameras for the active traffic management system, the number of cameras on the Highways Agency's CCTV network is likely to increase significantly over the next few years. The cameras send the feed to a central control center where a producer selects feeds to send to the television monitors that fans can view.  New York C...

Fences tend to draw curiosity, while plants seem to go unnoticed. That is until someone tries to walk through them! Here are six plants you need to plant for a natural home security system. #1- Century Plants ( Agave Americana ) Some plants can provide an extra “layer” for extreme home security. Commonly called a Century Plant or Sentry Plant, unlike its name suggest, it typically only lives 10-30 years. Home security systems help homeowners, police catch crooks

(WTNH) - It's happening all over the state. A man in Watertown took only seconds to smash some glass and get inside a house, and then walk away with the big screen TV. However, a surveillance camera caught him in the act. "These home security systems are great. I have one at my house. They are high-resolution and low-cost. And they can provide us some great evidence when something like this happens," stated Lt. William Meier with Vernon police . Related Content: SURVEILLANCE VIDEO: Watertown police seek home burglary suspect Lt. Meier released home security video of a man breaking into a house earlier this month. The homeowner got an alarm and was able to watch the man walk through his house, up the stairs and into his bedroom where jewelry was stolen. "We have used this evidence successfully in many cases. Whether it captured a vehicle driving by, or captured somebody inside a house as in this case, it is very helpful evidence," Lt. Meier said. At Mammoth Surv...

Rodeo Homeowner Uses Remote Security System To Scare Off Thieves

RODEO (KPIX 5) — A Bay Area homeowner who recently caught a couple of thieves red-handed trying to break into her house was able to use her home security system to scare them off from 19 miles away. Using her Ring security system, Rodeo homeowner Melissa was able to see the two men trying to break into her home in broad daylight on her cell phone. Ring home security uses what it calls a Video Doorbell and cameras so users can remotely see who is at their front door, or in this case, who is trying to break in their front door. She was at work in Oakland when the attempted break in occurred. “I was really angry and I was really scared,” said Melissa, who didn’t want to use her last name or show her face on camera for her own personal safety. “I saw the first guy getting inside house and other one about to follow,” Melissa explained. Melissa activated the Ring two-way audio system to speak to the intruders. “I said, What are you doing?! What are y...

Security Tips For Your Outdoor Property

In lots of cases, it’s easy to talk about home security. You’re talking about an alarm system; you’re talking about cameras. Securing the stuff inside your home: pretty straightforward. But what about securing your outdoor assets — the kids’ bikes, the top-dollar gas grill — and securing the outside of your home? That can get a little more tricky. And what about things that may be visible from the road: your front porch furniture, for example? bmphotographer / Shutterstock.com Luckily, you don’t have to cede your brand-new barbecue to burglars, or your patio cushions to thieves (sadly, this is an issue in many areas). There are lots of different ways to secure both your outdoor assets and the outside of your home. Security Lights Lights are the simplest way to keep your yard and property safe and secure. It’s true that crime thrives in the dark: thieves and other ne’r-do-wells don’t want to be seen. So lights are your first line of defense to secure your property: both to keep safe the...

Syria Security Chief Refuses Summons to Lebanese Military Court

Syrian security services chief Ali Mamlouk refused on Monday a summon by a Lebanese military court that is tackling the case of former Information Minister Michel Samaha on terror-related charges. Mamlouk, a member of Syrian regime head Bashar Assad's inner circle, was accused in 2013 by Lebanon's government of "attempting to murder politicians and other citizens, and carrying out terrorist acts". Samaha was sentenced to 13 years in prison after he was caught transporting explosives from Syria for use in attacks in Lebanon. He had admitted early on in his trial that he was plotting the attacks with Mamlouk's help. Since 2013, Lebanon has had an arrest warrant out for Mamlouk, 72, and has been serving subpoenas to Syria in his name, but it was unclear if he was receiving them. Monday's hearing marked a rare acknowledgment of an attempted delivery. "During a hearing by the military court on Monday, the subpoena returned (from Damascus) without the accused...

Package theft has long been a persistent problem for online shoppers, and Amazon says in-car delivery is one way to combat the problem. And like with in-home delivery, s...

This follows on from last year’s embarrassing DJI security cockup in which we revealed the firm’s developers had left its private AWS keys exposed on Github for so long that users had forked them . Github later rejected a DMCA takedown request by DJI aimed at nixing the forks with the keys in. In addition, DJI was slapped with a blanket ban by the US Army, which ordered all of its personnel to stop using DJI drones immediately and hand them in for disposal. Small drones are increasingly popular with military and aligned governmental agencies around the world for their portable surveillance properties...
