NTT Corp, subsidiaries and MHI unveil security tool for network control systems

NTT Communications, along with parent company NTT Corp and sister company NTT Data, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) have launched a new cyber security tool for infrastructure control systems. InteRSePT, which stands for Integrated Resilient Security and Proactive Technology, offers real-time anomaly detection and response for unknown cyber-attacks which can help users develop safe and secure system operations, NTT said. It will actively be sold by MHI and NTT from May, with both companies actively developing markets for the technology in commercial fields where continuous availability is critical. This includes thermal power stations and chemical plants. The two companies have been developing InteRSePT since March 2016, with a prototype completed in November of that year. Tests of the prototype were then conducted at Cyber Lab, MHI’s facility in Tokyo, Japan. InteRSePT includes real-time network monitoring and a security management system, which monitors sensor information and other data flows within networks. This helps detect cyber-attacks that exploit control commands, offering early detection of anomalies, allowing for quicker responses. NTT Com’s main role has been the development of technologies related to data accumulation and anomaly detection necessary for market application of the NTT's core technologies, and productisation of security solutions, it said. "InteRSePT® is able to provide detailed confirmation of control system networks, and offers exceptional compatibility with a wide range of industrial facilities and devices." Security has been a key component of NTT Com’s strategy over the last year, with a report from NTT’s security division last year revealing more than six billion cyber-attacks were attempted in 2016 . NTT Security recorded the attacks on its client networks spanning six continents, with DDoS attacks up 172% year on year, according to figures from Cisco. A third of all documented attacks targeted manufacturers and manufacturers appear in the top three targets in five of the six geographic regions globally, said NTT Security. This led to NTT Com strengthening and expanding its DDoS protection services with the addition of a new detection solution called DPS Detect. "Network security is one of the top priorities for our company," said Michael Wheeler, EVP of the NTT Communications Global IP Network at NTT America in an interview with Capacity last year . "As DDoS attacks continue to grow in frequency, size and complexity, it is important to give our global IP network customers more solution options and the opportunity to choose the level of support they need." The Edward Snowden Interview Closed-circuit television In recent years, the use of body worn video cameras has been introduced as a new form of surveillance, often used in law enforcement, with cameras located on a police officer's chest or head. Video surveillance has generated significant debate about balancing its use with individuals' right to privacy even when in public. Special cameras for some of these purposes include line-scan cameras and thermographic cameras which allow operators to measure the temperature of the processes. With the addition of fixed cameras for the active traffic management system, the number of cameras on the Highways Agency's CCTV network is likely to increase significantly over the next few years. The cameras send the feed to a central control center where a producer selects feeds to send to the television monitors that fans can view.  New York C...

Security company in Bellevue vandalized

BELLEVUE, Neb. (KMTV) - An Omaha home security company based out of Bellevue is using its own camera to help track down a thief who stole items from outside their building. Chris Malmberg, the owner of Omaha Security Systems Inc. says an unidentified man stole nearly $300 worth of landscaping Sunday night. "The motion sensors went off and I got a notification on my phone that he was there. We saw him take the plants, we watched him drive away and then immediately contacted police," said Malmberg. "He was real nervous, but he ended up stealing shrubbery, Hosta plants, I mean - never in my life have I ever known somebody to steal landscaping." Malmberg said the plants could be replaced, but what's frustrating is that this is one of several vandalism incidents his business has experienced since OSSI moved into the building near Jefferson and Mission Ave. "We've had vandalism, we've had items stolen, or attempted to be stolen, with the security that we...
