Wildlife officials in Wisconsin have launched an investigation after reviewing home security footage showing a strange-looking, wolf-like creature roaming a Racine County neighborhood. The footage, captured Monday morning, reveals a canine-type animal that's rangy like a wolf or coyote, but also resembles an odd-looking dog. If the animal turns out to be a wolf, it’d represent the first known wolf sighting in Southeast Wisconsin in three years. Dianne Robinson, a biologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, told TMJ4 after reviewing the video: “We can’t at this point determine whether it’s a coyote, a wolf or a wolf-dog hybrid. It’s definitely something of interest and something unusual.” Michael Schwenn, who captured the footage, said the the animal passed by the camera at dawn Monday in Wind Lake. Robinson said the DNR has received calls from concerned citizens about a strange-looking animal in the area. The DNR sent biologists to the area Wednesday to take measurements on plants and landmarks to get a better idea of what the creature might be. “At the shoulder, a coyote’s going be more in the 20-inch range where a wolf is going to be in the 27-inches range,” Robinson said. “It’s a pretty big difference. If we can get out there and we can get a measurement of the animal in the video itself, that will really help us be able to rule out one way or the other.” The critter could also be a wolf-dog hybrid, Robinson said. –Image is a video screen grab
