Keeping your home safe without breaking the bank

KGUN9 On Your Side TUCSON, Ariz. - Home security is important to all of us, but for some cost may have kept you from getting a security system to protect your home and your family. Securing your home doesn't have to cost thousands of dollars. There are many options if you're on a budget. Tucson homeowner Gary Stephens knows from experience. He recently installed The Ring Video Doorbell and the floodlight cameras. Shortly after the installation, one of his cameras captured a man going through his car after he forgot to lock it. "I was in complete shock. I started to go into panic as I was watching it. Luckily, we don't keep anything in the car," said Stephens. Stephens turned the video over to police. For him, home security has given him peace of mind, knowing the cameras are always rolling. "I remember back when home security you didn't have access to cameras in your houses and if you did it cost a fortune," said Stephens. Stephens says he bought the Ring Doorbell for about $150 and another $150 for the extra lights. Every time someone approaches the front or the back, the Ring's motion detection alerts your phone with a streamed link that pops up. No matter where you are, you know what's happening at home. You can pay extra to store your videos. But the Ring isn't your only option. On Amazon, you can find several security cameras for under 150 dollars. For example, Zmodo costs $100 with Prime for a four pack of cameras. The set up is easy and quick. You get 24/7 HD live stream, including night vision, motion detection and push notifications sent right to your phone. There's also the Amcrest ProHD at $89.99. This wireless security camera lets you monitor what you want, anytime and anywhere. You will have easy access to your phone through their software with live view, clear picture, with night vision included. Cloud service prices vary from 7 days to 90 days, $6 to $27. There's also the Reolink Go at $59.99. This HD camera can be easily set up with real-time motion alerts, easily accessible on your phone via an app, with video recording and extra cloud storage for about $10 a month. Marana police officer Clayton Strahle says affordable home security cameras are effective deterrents, they're not just keeping you safe they're also helping police solve crimes. KGUN9 On Your Side "Criminals are also adapting to how we traditionally solve crimes through forensics, DNA, fingerprints. Pretty much everyone on the streets knows those are methods we use," said officer Strahle. "So surveillance systems are something we have at our disposal, its something they cant refute in the future." In fact, about a year ago, Marana had a string of car break-ins and thefts. Police say with the help of someone's security video; they were able to catch the culprit. "It showed him very clearly stealing this individuals vehicle, and just by that, we could put him in the area of all of these vehicle break-ins occurred that one night. It definitely helped us out in that case," said officer Strahle. There are hundreds of option for home security, each one uniquely suited for a different situation. The Edward Snowden Interview Closed-circuit television In recent years, the use of body worn video cameras has been introduced as a new form of surveillance, often used in law enforcement, with cameras located on a police officer's chest or head. Video surveillance has generated significant debate about balancing its use with individuals' right to privacy even when in public. Special cameras for some of these purposes include line-scan cameras and thermographic cameras which allow operators to measure the temperature of the processes. With the addition of fixed cameras for the active traffic management system, the number of cameras on the Highways Agency's CCTV network is likely to increase significantly over the next few years. The cameras send the feed to a central control center where a producer selects feeds to send to the television monitors that fans can view.  New York C...

Security company in Bellevue vandalized

BELLEVUE, Neb. (KMTV) - An Omaha home security company based out of Bellevue is using its own camera to help track down a thief who stole items from outside their building. Chris Malmberg, the owner of Omaha Security Systems Inc. says an unidentified man stole nearly $300 worth of landscaping Sunday night. "The motion sensors went off and I got a notification on my phone that he was there. We saw him take the plants, we watched him drive away and then immediately contacted police," said Malmberg. "He was real nervous, but he ended up stealing shrubbery, Hosta plants, I mean - never in my life have I ever known somebody to steal landscaping." Malmberg said the plants could be replaced, but what's frustrating is that this is one of several vandalism incidents his business has experienced since OSSI moved into the building near Jefferson and Mission Ave. "We've had vandalism, we've had items stolen, or attempted to be stolen, with the security that we...
