ABILENE, Texas — Abilene police and firefighters got a thank you gift Monday. State Farm handed out Canary home security devices to Abilene's first responders. The devices have cameras that can detect motion, air quality and even temperature changes though an app. The program is designed to help protect first responders' homes and families while they're at work protecting the community. “Well it means a lot,” said Jimmy Hall, president of the Abilene Professional Fire Fighters Association. “I don't think any of us do this for the gratitude and those types of things. It's nice when the public says thank you. In this case this sign of gratitude is something that's useful and can actually save lives.” They'll hand out about 400 of those devices to Abilene police officers and firefighters. Since teaming up three years ago, Canary and State Farm have donated more than 10,000 units to first responders nationwide.
