Mivatek Smart Connect Provides Asia Pacific Telecom With Platform, Devices for First Smart Home Offering

Fremont, May 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mivatek Smart Connect (formerly “ Mivatek ”) announces today the signing of a partnership agreement with Asia Pacific Telecom (APT), whereby APT will use Mivatek Smart Connect’s plug-n-play Smart Home solutions and service. Mivatek’s mobile-cloud Video-IoT platform and smart devices will form the foundation of APT's Home Guardian program - a leading DIY MIY Smart Home & Business service available to 1.9 million APT's customers. The new APT Home Guardian program is the company’s first offering in the smart home arena. Home Guardian provides APT customers with a turnkey video-integrated interactive security, safety, and wellness service solution. Each system package gives users advanced “one-touch-to-responder” features that allow them to make video-integrated protection and control with family, wherever they are. The collaborative protection design allows the user, their family members, caregivers, and even neighbors to protect their homes and achieve peace of mind. There are three in-a-box starter packages available to APT customers. The entry-level package allows the user to create a basic Home Security system comprised of a Mivatek Cube Camera, two Door and Window Sensors, and a Hub for system control. All Home Guardian systems can be easily expanded with additional Mivatek devices to cover security, safety and/or care capabilities; the zero-pairing technology allows the expansion of accessories in seconds. Ultimately, these packages cover the areas that APT believe will bring their customers the most peace of mind: home security and safety; care of elderly to allow them to independently and safely in their own homes as long as possible (the “aging in place” trend); and the care and safety of infants and pets. The creation of Home Guardian evolved as a result of APT’s desire to bring additional value and service to its cellular subscriber base, currently at 1.9 million and growing. “We looked at a number of value-added solutions to make our wireless products and services more attractive,” said Oscar Kuo, APT Senior Project Deputy Manager. “The zero-pairing technology and the comprehensive capabilities of the Mivatek Smart Connect platform and associated devices, spanning from security, safety, care, and video, really impressed us.” Joe Liu, CEO of Mivatek Smart Connect, emphasized that this new project dovetails well with the company’s new focus on service providers, brand owners, and telco’s. “We are excited about serving global service providers and brand owners with our turnkey Smart-Connect-as-a-Service,” said Liu, emphasizing the company’s commitment to a private label and OEM business strategy. “We are also thrilled that a leading telecom and cellular service provider like APT chose Mivatek's Smart Connect platform. We made video-integrated Smart Connect easy, reliable and cost-effective, and we’re confident that APT and its customers will appreciate these advantages.” Additional capabilities of the new Home Guardian system include: Multi-point installation : Use a single account to simultaneously manage devices in different locations and monitor multiple locations at the same time. Collaborative protection : Five family members can be authorized to receive instant video push notifications and five emergency contacts. Service in tandem : Strengthen the home security/care function, connect hospitals, care centers & security operators in series, providing users with more comprehensive services. Privacy encryption : Multiple patented firewalls and anti-intrusion technologies protect the user’s image privacy and account information. Security company in Bellevue vandalized

BELLEVUE, Neb. (KMTV) - An Omaha home security company based out of Bellevue is using its own camera to help track down a thief who stole items from outside their building. Chris Malmberg, the owner of Omaha Security Systems Inc. says an unidentified man stole nearly $300 worth of landscaping Sunday night. "The motion sensors went off and I got a notification on my phone that he was there. We saw him take the plants, we watched him drive away and then immediately contacted police," said Malmberg. "He was real nervous, but he ended up stealing shrubbery, Hosta plants, I mean - never in my life have I ever known somebody to steal landscaping." Malmberg said the plants could be replaced, but what's frustrating is that this is one of several vandalism incidents his business has experienced since OSSI moved into the building near Jefferson and Mission Ave. "We've had vandalism, we've had items stolen, or attempted to be stolen, with the security that we...

Study: Majority of U.S. Broadband Households Concerned About Security of IoT Devices

As Internet-connected devices become more ubiquitous, security and privacy concerns of end users are also on the rise. Simply installing security systems in smart homes is no longer enough. Security integrators must also consider bolstering cybersecurity measures when installing their systems. A recently released whitepaper from IoT research firm Parks Associates, titled “Residential Security and Encryption: Setting the Standard, Protecting Consumers,” reveals that 64% of U.S. broadband households are concerned about security and privacy when using their connected devices. Parks Associates also found that the majority of homeowners assume security integrators are addressing their cybersecurity concerns. In fact, a Parks Associates survey of U.S. security owners found 63% of professionally monitored subscribers believe the wireless signals from their system are encrypted, even though encryption is currently not the industry-wide standard. While the whitepaper outlines a few ...

Ring Alarm review: A great DIY home security system with the potential to become even better

Ring builds some of our favorite video doorbells and security camera/outdoor lighting mashups. Now the company—recently acquired by Amazon—is moving inside the home with a strong and inexpensive DIY home security system: Ring Alarm. It’s a fantastic product today, and Ring says it will only get better with time. Ring Alarm is positioned as a mainstream home security system, and while you won’t find a great deal of innovation here (there’s nothing like the Nest Detect sensor that comes with the much-more-expensive Nest Secure system , for example), it’s already equipped with everything it needs to grow into a comprehensive smart home system. Ring Alarm doesn’t support smart lighting controls, door locks, thermostats, garage-door openers, or other common smart home products today, and there’s a very short list of supported third-party products. But it lacks nothing needed to support those and similar devices down the road. And in an intervi...
