Amazon has begun offering a slate of smart-security home systems that include several Amazon smart products and will be installed by Amazon employees. With Amazon offering to unlock your front door and also unlock you car in order to get your deliveries to you as quickly as possible, one would hope that the e-commerce/all-everything behemoth is taking security seriously. It might be. Because now you can go to Amazon and choose from an array of home security systems sold by the company and which are installed by Amazon employees. Amazon is now offering five different security packages at prices ranging from $240 on the low end for an outdoor smart lighting system meant to make it appear that someone is home even when they aren’t, to an $840 whole-home setup that includes features such as a video doorbell, entryway sensors and intermittent dog-barking sounds coming from an Alexa-enabled device. Each of the security packages comes with an Amazon Echo Dot voice assistant, as well as two visits from an Amazon official to asses a customer’s security needs and then to install the system. By offering its own security systems, Amazon is showing what it had in mind when, in December, it acquired Blink, a smart camera and doorbell startup, and then spent $1 billion on smart-home technology company Ring, in February of this year.
